Odette Avaltierra, the matriarch of the highly esteemed occult family, yearned for a daughter for as far back as she could remember. Being born into this family, however, did not permit the traditional sense of procreation and child-rearing. Instead, matchmaking was enacted amongst other families or clans practicing the dark arts of elemental manipulation, scrying, necromancy or summoning.
Odette, the second eldest of the Avaltierra family, was 56 years old when she summoned the demon that she would later name Penelope. Odette had visions of what her daughter would look like. She fantasized an image of her when she would be a child and factored in the time as it were now, when she willed the demon Penelope into the mortal plane for servitude. Should Odette have bore a daughter in her mid-twenties as she always dreamt for herself even after years passed, the caricature of her daughter through the demon would represent something of a woman who was in her late twenties or early thirties.
Penelope spawned in the Glass Alter of the Avaltierra estate’s summoning parlor in the middle of a blizzard. The altar kept a suspended, flat white crystal in the center, resembling a scuffed, foggy mirror barely registering a reflection to any who stood before it. A high heeled foot stepped forward onto the black stone of the summoning parlor, then the rest of her buxom body emerged through it. Odette was pleased with the demon’s beauty. Penelope’s beauty surpassed Odette’s imagination for her nonexistent daughter. The ritual was bittersweet for Odette. While she knew the demon would prove obedient and tamed to her liking and preferences, her heart of hearts knew that a demon was a shoddy substitute for true flesh and blood born from her own flesh and blood. Odette was pleased, but bitter that ‘pleased’ was the best she could hope for in these circumstances.
Penelope was statuesque, her eyes two vibrant sapphire stones and catlike. Her nose was demure and understated and her cheeks were rosy and full. Her chest puffed out with her picturesque posture and the swells of her breasts were supple and inviting even underneath a white buttoned up shirt. Her hair was a long waterfall of inky black, tucked back behind her ears away from her face and streaming to a stop at the small of her back. She wore a satin purple skirt as though it were second skin, accentuating the shape of her hips and thighs. On her collar where a thin back ribbon tied together was a bright topaz jewel.
The demon Penelope was hardly an unpleasant servant demon. Perhaps it was due to the motherly nature of her mistress Odette that made her an easy demon to tame, but her personality and aura radiated a warmth that led many humans to believe that she was not a manifestation of the Avaltierras. Her abilities, while impressive, were not as obvious and showy as her elder demon before her, Greying. The demon could phase through space as though ripping through invisible portals from one place to the next, on the condition that she had already been to a place. Penelope was easily summoned by Odette to and from the Avaltierra estate and typically the one to run the errands between home and the surrounding villages. This was not only due to her mobility, but rather she was well-liked by humans.
Though Penelope is does not wield a formidable arsenal of offensive or defensive abilities like her other siblings, her mistress did not intend for a battle-ready demon to be her companion. Of all the Avaltierra demons, Penelope registers as the least harmful both in temperament and skill set.
